Montgomery County, KY
At its founding, Montgomery County stretched across vast, unpopulated lands all the way to the Virginia border. Over the years, as new counties were formed, its boundaries shifted, and today it is one of the smallest of Kentucky’s 120 counties — though rich in history and community spirit.
Montgomery County is home to 35 industries employing more than 5,000 local residents, a 65-bed hospital, a regional arts center, and the Clay Community Center, which houses the newest and fastest-growing extended campus of Morehead State University. These amenities, along with many others, support a high quality of life for residents and businesses alike.
Mount Sterling, KY
Mount Sterling, the county seat of Montgomery County, is home to more than 7,000 residents and is recognized as one of the fastest-growing communities in the Commonwealth. Serving as the economic engine of this Central Kentucky region, the community has been ranked by Site Selection magazine as a top-ten Micropolitan area in the state—thanks to strong growth and significant capital investment.
Founded in 1792 by Scotsman Hugh Forbes, Mount Sterling’s name blends its origins—the “Little Mountain” burial site with Stirling, a town in his native Scotland. While proud of its heritage, the community looks forward with optimism, fostering progress, new industry, and continued growth.
Mt. Sterling-Montgomery County is a place that’s easy to get to, but hard to leave.
