The Montgomery County Solid Waste Management Area is governed by the Montgomery County Fiscal Court, consisting of the Judge Executive and three Commissioners. An Advisory Committee Board, made up of seven members of differing backgrounds, offers advice and technical expertise to the MCSWMA.
Montgomery County employs a Solid Waste Coordinator (SWC) who oversees the implementation of the County's solid waste management plan including collection, disposal, recycling & reduction, open dumps & litter, facility siting, enforcement and finance. The SWC enforces the County's solid waste ordinances and handles issues regarding solid waste collection, landfill disposal, illegal dumping and special events while providing community education and available resources.

Free Solid Waste Disposal Days
Dispose of up to 1 pick-up truck load of household waste & large items, such as mattresses, furniture, appliances (NO Freon) and more.
Must present valid Montgomery County ID.

Rumpke Waste & Recycling
On July 1, 2021 The Montgomery County Fiscal Court awarded Rumpke of KY Inc. an exclusive franchise contract for residential and commercial waste collection and recycling services for the unincorporated area of Montgomery County and the City of Jeffersonville. This contract is valid for three years with an optional 2 year extension.
Residential Service rates for the unincorporated area of Montgomery County and City of Jeffersonville
Residential Service Options:
- Once weekly trash and recycling collection – $16.75 per month.
- 95-gallon trash cart rental – $3.75 per month.
- Large item collection –$15 per item (residents must contact Rumpke at least 24-hours in advance of scheduled collection day to request pickup).
- Limit 10, 35-gallon trash bags each collection. Service includes a 65-gallon recycling cart.
Senior Citizen and Totally Disabled Service Options. *
- Once weekly trash and recycling collection – $14.75 per month.
- 95-gallon trash cart rental – $3.75 per month.
- Large item collection – $15 per item (residents must contact Rumpke at least 24-hours in advance of scheduled collection day to request pickup).
- Limit six, 35-gallon trash bags each collection. Service includes a 65-gallon recycling cart.
*Residents 60 years or older are eligible for discounted rate. Homeowner must provide proof of age or disability.
